Tri-Municipal Industrial Partnership Area Structure Plan (Bylaw 19-815)
September 2019
Bylaw 19-815, passed by the MD of Greenview on September 9, 2019, adopting the Tri-Municipal Industrial Partnership Area Structure Plan. The plan covers approximately 75 square kilometres of Crown land about 40 kilometres south of Grande Prairie, and sets out where heavy industrial development, natural features, utilities and transportation corridors belong.

Environmental and WaterEco-Industrial District MOU
MOU for Eco-Industrial District
February 2020
MD of Greenview / City of Grande Prairie / County of Grande Prairie
The GIG was originally conceived by the Tri-Municipal Industrial Partnership (TMIP) between the MD of Greenview and its closest neighbours, the City of Grande Prairie and the County of Grande Prairie. Their common goal was to develop an Eco-Industrial District to “coordinate the orderly development of industrial services… in a manner that supports provincial and municipal economic, social and environmental priorities.” The GIG is the result of this collaboration.

Environmental and WaterWater Availability Assessment
Water Availability Assessment for the Greenview Industrial Gateway (V2)
June 2021
WaterSMART Solutions Ltd.
Assessment of water availability for new allocations from the Smoky River, including existing licence holders and storage needs, based on a hypothetical petrochemical development requiring up to 50 million m³/year. Subsequent GIG planning considered approximately 24 million m³/year.
Wonder Valley Context
Wonder Valley intends to remain below a 6 million m³/year allocation, therefore historic figures should not be interpreted as its current requirements. Wonder Valley’s process-water strategy uses a recirculating loop with makeup water, potentially reducing source-water withdrawal to approximately 1.4 million m³/year. Combined-cycle generation provides a conservative water-use basis; other options may require substantially less water.

November 2024
Aboriginal Consultation Office
Pre-consultation assessment by Alberta’s Aboriginal Consultation Office for a proposed diversion of up to 3.5 million m³/year from the Smoky River for the GIG water intake, well within previous GIG planning for approximately 24 million m³/year. The assessment includes the Office’s consultation recommendation.
Wonder Valley Context
The Wonder Valley project intends to remain below a 6 million m³/year allocation. Wonder Valley’s process-water strategy uses a recirculating loop with makeup water, potentially reducing source-water withdrawal to approximately 1.4 million m³/year. Combined-cycle generation provides a conservative water-use basis; other options may require substantially less water.
